Peaking Plant permission, Trecwn
RD Wales received planning permission from Pembrokeshire County Council on 4 September 2012 for a 20MW peaking plant at the former RNAD facility at Trecwn, near Fishguard. The scheme represents the first phase of RD Wales’ collaboration with the site’s owners to redevelop this extensive brownfield site for energy and other employment uses.
The peaking plant will consist of a series of diesel powered generators that are able to respond rapidly to calls from National Grid to supply power at times of peak demand. Such plants are likely to be increasingly required to support the electricity network as the country moves towards a more diverse energy supply that includes more renewable generation.
